I miss the days of simplicity
When you were simply you
When I was simply me
I long for long-gone simplicity
Where truth is always true
Where freedom's always free
Before the world turned on its tail
Before we learned how to lie
Before my childhood's soul set sail
And we learned we couldn't cry
There must be truth in someone's eyes
And love in someone's heart
But I'm getting very frightened -
Frightened that there's not
It seems we're all too damn enlightened
To reclaim the gift forgot
I miss my childhood's innocence
When more was more
When less was less
I seek a stolen innocence
Where wrong is wrong
And right makes sense
We're drowning in symbolic seas
We're drinking political poison
We spend life writing a ghastly sentence
That we paint the little girls and boys in
I guess I miss that time
When one minute felt like days
I guess I miss that time
Before encountering my first "phase"
Before I lost my self in a haze
Before I could go wrong so many ways
Before my heart became a maze...
But most of all I think...
I miss the time before I thought...
To doubt a loving gaze.
